By Dianne Duvall
April 21, 2020

New York Times bestselling author Dianne Duvall brings readers the first novel in a thrilling new sci-fi romance series full of action, intrigue, humor, and happily-ever-afters.

Taelon searches the galaxy for his younger sister, who mysteriously disappeared while on a diplomatic mission. When an ally reveals that she was seized and is being held prisoner on Earth, Taelon descends upon the blue planet, intent on freeing her and exacting vengeance. However, all does not go as planned. Before he can find her, Taelon is captured and becomes the subject of torturous experiments. For what feels like an eternity, all he knows is pain and fury… until a mind tentatively touches his own and a woman’s voice forever changes his world.

After suffering tragic losses, Lisa is finally beginning to carve out a future for herself when chance sends her to the Anomalous Cognition Research Institute. What at first appears to be a benign organization seeking participants for a psychic study instead turns out to be a government facility harboring a much darker intent. Lisa discovers this too late and soon becomes the unwilling subject of a terrifying experiment. Just as fear and desperation threaten to consume her, a deep, compelling voice penetrates the looming insanity and lends her hope.

Having seen only the worst of humanity, Taelon is shocked when Lisa risks everything to free him. Together the two make their escape, and Taelon finds himself fascinated by the small human woman who—despite all she’s suffered—can still laugh and tease and lure smiles from him. Friendship swiftly grows between them as they work together to evade soldiers intent on capturing them and find themselves hunted by mystifying preternatural beings. Through it all, Lisa steadfastly remains by his side, stealing more of his heart each day while she helps him unravel the mystery of his sister’s fate. Can they find his sister before the hunters find them? If they survive their quest, will Taelon have to bid Lisa farewell… or can he coax her into leaving her planet and joining him for the adventure of a lifetime?

The Lasaran Playlist

Hello! Thank you for joining us today! I’m thrilled to be here, celebrating the release of THE LASARAN, Aldebarian Alliance Book 1. I’m very excited about launching this new series. If you’re new to my work and enjoy sci-fi and paranormal romance that features strong heroes who love strong women and lots of action, passion, humor, and happily-ever-afters, then I think you’ll like it. And If you’re a fan of my Immortal Guardians series, I think you’re really going to like this series, too.

When I’m hanging out with fellow booklovers on social media, the subject of music occasionally arises. Reader friends comment on songs I’ve mentioned in my books and recommend others they think I’d like. (I’ve found quite a few favorites that way.) I’m also often asked what kind of music I listen to when I write. But I rarely listen to music when I’m in writer mode. If a song is playing while I’m working, I’ll most likely end up signing along in my head and lose focus. That doesn’t mean, however, that music and writing never intermingle for me. Certain songs always bring specific characters or scenes to mind. So today I thought I would present you with my playlist for THE LASARAN:

1
Familia (featuring Bantu)—Nicki Minaj & Anuel AA. This one I associate with Taelon, the hero. His love for his family is what drives him to search the galaxy for his missing sister, and he will do whatever he must to find her and seek vengeance if she’s been harmed.

2
Confident—Demi Lovato. This one reminds me of Lisa, the heroine. Life does not prepare her for what happens in THE LASARAN, but she very quickly rises to the occasion. J

3
The Sound of Silence—Disturbed. I have a member of my Dianne Duvall Books Group on Facebook to thank for this one. I had not heard this rendition of the song until she recommended it. And I instantly loved it. It now reminds me of Taelon, the hero of THE LASARAN, though I admit it also makes me think of Seth from my Immortal Guardians series.

4
Come What May—Ewen McGregor and Nicole Kidman. This is the perfect love song for Taelon and Lisa. They’ve both been through very rough times. Then they found each other, and everything changed.

5
Not Gonna Die—Skillet. If Taelon and Lisa had an anthem, this would be it.

6
Your Body is a Wonderland—John Mayer. I though this one represented the love Taelon and Lisa share well.

7
Blow Me Away—Breaking Benjamin. This is a pretty good representation of Taelon and Lisa’s harrowing adventure.

8
Loving You Tonight—Andrew Allen. Taelon and Lisa can be so playful together. This made me think of them, because as long as they have each other, they can face anything. And when they’re in each other’s arms, they really are taking a break from crazy. ;-)

For the Immortal Guardians fans out there, I’ll mention that this one also reminds me of Seth and Leah.

  1. I was so disappointed this morning, I thought today was the 21st. I was so looking forward to having a marathon reading day. I start my 12 hours shift work week tomorrow so upset I won’t be able to start reading until Thursday. I’ve been looking forward to reading this book since finishing Seth’s book. Love your writing.

  6. I loved hearing your playlist for The Lasarian and of course for Death of Darkness. I always thought the Sounds of Silence fit DOD. Although I am more into older Rock than the newer stuff, I listened anyway, like a good musician should. I was surprised to see the songs we have in common as much as how much I liked the words for your songs. Come What May is one song I had to own the minute I saw the movie. When I sleep, I hear soundtracks in my dreams but I haven’t figured out a way to remember or record them. Serious. I typically do not listen to music when I read, as music is a distraction for a musician. When I think or daydream about your stories I add the music. Thankyou for the beautiful distraction in a time when we could all use more love and a hero.
