No Hero

No Hero by Mallory Kane was a fast paced story that had me hooked from the beginning. Detective Deveraux's past was exposed by Reghan and it almost cost him his job and everything he cares about, so when she comes to him about a case he's working on he wants nothing to do with her. Reghan is a reporter who enjoys proving that there are no true heroes out there. She comes to him with a clue as to who is targeting the people Dev cares about and killing them, but she becomes the target of the killer so Dev has to protect her. I enjoyed this story because despite Dev being hurt by Reghan in the past, he took her lead on the case seriously and protected her when she was in danger. Their connection was strong enough to be believable while not overpowering the mystery aspect of the story. I had trouble putting this book down and recommend it to those who like mystery and romance. It gets 4 stars and I will probably read it again.

Police Detective Devereux Gautier knows he's no hero.
He's seen too much and failed too many times. Now the homeless kids he mentors are dying and the only person who can help him find the killer is the woman who dug up his past to destroy him. Dev needs her help to solve the case, but he can’t trust her and he can't trust himself around her, because she's the sexiest, most intelligent woman he's ever met.

Journalist Reghan Connor knows there are no heroes, and she's out to prove it on the air for all of New Orleans. Her latest debunked hero is Detective Dev Gautier, who hates her for exposing his mistakes. Now Reghan has been given the key to the murders of Dev's homeless teens, but how can she convince him she's not setting him up for another fall? As they work together to solve the murders, Reghan learns that being a hero is complicated and loving a hero can be downright deadly.
