My Lucky #13

Lucky.

The one adjective used to describe my entire hockey career. I prefer to call it hard work, at least I did until my game went to complete crap. I haven’t scored in eight games and my team owner is talking about trading me. 

 

I’ve never believed in superstitions. 

Never needed one. I suppose I was “lucky” in that way. But now the best way to refer to me is desperate. I’d wear the same socks for an entire year just to be the high-scoring center I used to be. 

 

Imagine my surprise when after spending New Year’s Eve with a woman, I score a hat trick in the next game—that’s three goals in one game for you non-hockey lovers. 

Now, I have to track  her down and bribe her to do it again before every game. Get your mind out of the gutter, I’m not talking about it.

 

I find her and when I get to know her better, I end up spending more time thinking about her than my game, but she’s made it clear she wants no part of me. She’s going to learn that I didn’t become a professional hockey player without having to fight for what I want.

My thoughts: 

I adored Aiden! He was a genuinely good guy while being a great athlete. That’s not to say he doesn’t screw up royally, but he makes up for it Saige is a strong woman, but a bit relationship shy. The way this relationship grew was fun to watch and I love the way Piper Rayne’s mind works. It was a fantastic story and now I’m eagerly anticipating the next book.

My thoughts: 

This was a fantastic book, but if you're going to read it have a box of tissues near by. I was crying in chapter 1. Tank and Leah had a relationship built on tragedy, but they could have built one sooner if Leah hadn't been avoiding him. I love the mild precognition that Leah had and the way Melissa Foster wove a tragedy into the story while still making the book one I really enjoyed reading.

My thoughts: I loved Holden and Reese's story! Lauren Blakely knows how to suck you in and keep you turning the page long past when you say to yourself "just one more chapter." This story had characters with chemistry and heat, plus a forbidden aspect to it that was very enjoyable. I definitely recommend reading it.

My thoughts: I loved Dylan and Kylie's story. What caused Dylan to spiral was so heartbreaking and he definitely redeemed himself from the jerk he was in the previous book. Kylie's compassion knows now bound and her history wasn't easy either. This book was read in one sitting because I wanted this couple to work so badly. I really enjoyed it and definitely recommend this book.

Her heart skittered at that and she wet her lips. She thought about her next words carefully. Several seconds ticked by. Then she said simply, “Prove it.”
Fletcher reached out, wrapped his big hand around her wrist, and tugged her close. He cupped the back of her head and brought her in until they were nose to nose. “This changes everything,” he said. Almost as if it was a warning.

That was exactly what she’d wanted to hear without even realizing it.

My thoughts: I love the friends to lovers trope and Erin Nicholas did a fantastic job of writing this one. Jordan and Fletcher's friendship was one that built a sold foundation for their relationship. I enjoyed watching them make the transition from friends to lovers.

As Dak sauntered through, big and cocky, it was like watching the viral video of fainting goats. First all the women sat up straight, tits out, eyelashes fluttering madly, then as soon as he passed them, they collapsed back, drained and dreamy.

My thoughts:  I love the stories that Piper Rayne come up with! Nikki and Logan met and married in Vegas, but their story takes place in Nikki’s home town. Logan was the perfect man and I’d love to find one of him for my own. Nikki had some insecurities that I wish we’d seen a bit more of a resolution of, but that may come in a future book. This book set up the next sibling’s story beautifully and now I eagerly await it.
